Getting Started
Do I need my own AI API keys?
No. Runtype provides platform keys so you can start building immediately. You can optionally add your own keys (BYOK) if you need higher rate limits, full model access, or prefer direct provider billing.
How long does it take to build a working flow?
Simple flows: 5-10 minutes. Complex multi-step workflows: 30-60 minutes. The quickstart guide walks through a complete example in under 10 minutes.
Can I use Runtype without coding?
Yes. Most features use visual editors and configuration. Advanced features like custom tools and complex transforms require JavaScript.
Pricing & Billing
What's included in the free plan?
50 Flow executions per day at full speed; after that, requests continue in slow mode (short delay, limited hourly rate) so demos keep working. Platform API keys (shared rate limits), 1-day log retention, and unlimited team members. Perfect for testing and personal projects.
How much do AI models cost?
When using platform keys: included in free tier limits. When using BYOK: you pay providers directly (e.g., OpenAI charges ~$0.015 per GPT-4o request). See Usage data for estimates.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel in Settings → Billing. You keep Pro features until end of billing period, then downgrade to Free.
Flows & Agents
What's the difference between flows and agents?
Flows: You define each step in sequence. Agents: AI decides which tools to use and when. Use flows for predictable workflows, agents for open-ended tasks.
Can I reuse flows across products?
Yes. A single flow can be a Capability in multiple Products. Changes to the Flow apply everywhere it's used.
How do I make flows faster?
Use faster models (GPT-4o-mini), reduce prompt length, cache API responses, run independent steps in parallel, and optimize data transforms.
Products & Surfaces
Can I have multiple surfaces on one product?
Yes. One Product can have chat widget, API, MCP, and A2A Surfaces simultaneously, all accessing the same Capabilities.
How do I update a deployed flow?
Edit the Flow, test it, then publish. Products using the Flow automatically use the new version. Or use version pinning for manual control.
Can I use my own domain for the chat widget?
The widget embeds on your domain. The API calls go to Runtype's infrastructure—custom domains for API endpoints are Enterprise-only.
Records & Data
How many records can I store?
Free: 1,000 Records. Pro: 100,000 Records. Enterprise: Millions (with Weaviate integration).
Can I import existing data?
Yes. Upload CSV files to create Records in bulk. Map columns to metadata fields during import.
Is semantic search accurate?
Semantic search finds conceptually related content, not exact matches. Accuracy depends on data quality and query specificity. Test with your data.
Integrations
Which integrations are available?
Slack, Google Workspace, Linear, GitHub, Weaviate, Firecrawl, Exa, PostHog, and more. See Settings → Integrations for full list.
Can I request new integrations?
Yes. Email support with integration requests. Enterprise customers can get custom integrations built.
Security & Privacy
Is my data secure?
Yes. Data encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. SOC 2 compliance in progress. See runtype.com/security for details.
Do you train AI models on my data?
No. When using BYOK, your data goes directly to providers with your keys. Platform keys use providers' zero-retention policies.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Delete specific Flows, Records, or your entire account in Settings. Data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Technical
What's the maximum flow timeout?
Default: 30s. Configurable up to 300s (5 minutes). Runtime tools can run up to 15 minutes (Enterprise).
Can I self-host Runtype?
Not currently. Enterprise customers can request dedicated infrastructure. Contact sales for details.
Is there an API?
Yes. Full REST API for triggering Flows, managing resources, and accessing logs. See API docs for details.
